PairWise
Effective 13 September 2026 · Last updated 13 September 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Apex Root Solutions LLC for the PairWise app. They cover what you may do with it and — importantly for an app about relationships — what it is not: not therapy, not a counsellor, and not the right tool when someone is not safe.
PairWise is published by Apex Root Solutions LLC, a limited liability company organised under the laws of the State of Delaware, with its registered office in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware, and its principal place of business in Cedar Hill, Dallas County, Texas. "We" and "us" mean that company; "you" means the person using the app. By installing or using PairWise you accept these terms. Where two people use the app on one phone, each of them accepts these terms for their own use.
You must be at least 18 and old enough to form a binding contract where you live. PairWise is designed for adults in a relationship and is not for children.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use PairWise on devices you own or control, for your own purposes. You may not copy, sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the app, reverse engineer it except to the extent that restriction is unenforceable where you live, or use it to build a competing service.
PairWise is a structured tool: prompts, turn-taking, summaries, and a place to write agreements down. It is built from published, general relationship guidance and is not tailored to your circumstances by a professional.
It is not therapy, counselling, medical care or legal advice. Nothing in the app is a diagnosis of you, your partner or your relationship, and nothing in it is a substitute for a licensed professional. If you are working with a therapist or counsellor, their guidance takes precedence over anything the app suggests.
It is not for emergencies. If anyone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. The support lines listed in the app are provided for convenience; we do not operate them, and their availability and accuracy are theirs to maintain. The safety screening in the app is a fixed list of phrases, not a judgement: it can miss things, and a result of "nothing found" is not a statement that a situation is safe.
The mediator is software. Summaries, notes and suggestions labelled as coming from PairWise are generated by a program, not written by a person, and are not advice. They can be wrong. You decide what to do with them.
Everything you write in the app stays on the device and belongs to you. We claim no rights in it and have no access to it. Content in the shared space describes two people; when you disconnect from your partner, the shared space is kept on the device because one partner may not delete the other's copy of what they both said. Each of you may delete your own private space at any time.
You are responsible for what you write and for how you use what your partner has chosen to share with you. Using the app to monitor, coerce or control another person is a breach of these terms.
PairWise supports two people using one phone in turn. The app keeps each partner's private space separate and offers a lock for it, but it cannot control who holds the phone. Each of you is responsible for using the lock if you want it and for handing the phone over at the point the app asks you to.
Do not use the app to harass, threaten, monitor or control anyone; to record another person without their knowledge where that is unlawful; to circumvent the app's privacy or lock features; or in any way that breaks the law where you are.
PairWise is currently free and contains no purchases. If we introduce paid features we will update these terms and say so in the app before anything is charged.
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the app at any time. Because everything is stored on your device, discontinuing the app does not remove what you have written; the export control in the Privacy tab lets you keep a copy in a readable form.
You may stop using the app and delete it at any time; deleting it removes everything it kept on that device. We may end your licence if you breach these terms.
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the guidance, summaries or screening in the app will be accurate, complete or suitable for your situation, or that the app will be error-free or uninterrupted. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this may not apply to you.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of your use of the app — including any loss arising from reliance on a summary, suggestion or screening result, or from another person's access to a device you share. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for PairWise in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty-five United States dollars. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages and reasonable legal costs arising from your misuse of the app or your breach of these terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Dallas County, Texas. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory laws of the country where you live, or of the right to bring proceedings there where such a right cannot be waived.
On Apple platforms, this agreement is between you and us, not with Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide support for PairWise. Apple is not responsible for the app or for any claim relating to it, including product liability, any failure to conform to a legal requirement, or a third-party intellectual property claim; any such claim is our responsibility. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a United States embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and are not on a prohibited-parties list.
On Android, this agreement is between you and us, not with Google. Google is not responsible for the app or for any claim relating to it, and does not provide support for it. Your use of Google Play is governed by Google's own terms.
These terms are the entire agreement between us about PairWise. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stands. Our not enforcing something is not a waiver of it. You may not assign this agreement; we may assign it to a successor in connection with a merger or sale of the business. We may update these terms, and will change the date at the top when we do; continuing to use the app after a material change means you accept it.
