This Privacy Policy explains how Apsoluts ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the FoodIntel mobile application (the "App"). We designed FoodIntel to keep as much of your data on your device as possible.
1. Information We Collect
Device identifier and trial status (stored on our servers)
- A device identifier (a random ID stored in your device's secure storage on iOS, or the Android ID on Android) is used solely to remember whether a free trial has ever been used on your device, to prevent trial abuse. It is stored as an opaque value and is not linked to advertising or used for tracking across apps.
- Trial status — whether a free trial has ever been used on your device and, if one is active, when it expires.
Health information (stored only on your device)
- To personalise your daily targets and product warnings, the App stores your health details — age, sex, weight, height, activity level, dietary goal, life stage (including pregnancy and breastfeeding), diet preference, allergies, and health conditions (such as hypertension, high cholesterol, celiac disease, and diabetes).
- This health information, together with your profile details, food diary, favorites, grocery list, and scan history, is stored locally on your device, encrypted at rest, and is not uploaded to our servers. It is used solely to compute your nutrition targets and to flag products against your stated allergies and conditions.
- We do not use health information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than the features you see in the App. Product warnings are informational estimates based on third-party data — they are not medical advice, and you should always verify against the actual product label.
- If you delete the App, this local data is deleted with it. The only server-side data tied to you is the opaque device trial record — email us and we will delete it.
Biometric authentication (never collected)
- The App offers an optional biometric lock (Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint) that protects access to your diary and profiles. When enabled, your device's operating system performs the authentication.
- Biometric data is processed exclusively by your device's operating system. It is never collected, stored, or transmitted by us — the App only receives a yes/no result from the OS.
Purchase information
- Purchases are processed by Apple or Google. Our subscription partner RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous user ID and purchase receipts to manage your subscription. We never see or store your payment card details.
What we do NOT collect
- No email address, name, or account credentials — the App has no accounts and no sign-in.
- No advertising identifiers, no cross-app tracking, no selling of personal data.
- No precise location data.
- Barcode and product searches are sent to the Open Food Facts database without your identity attached.
2. How We Use Information
- To provide and manage your subscription and free trial;
- To prevent abuse (duplicate trials, unauthorised access);
- To operate, debug, and improve the App.
We do not use your data for advertising and we do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
3. Legal Bases (EEA/UK users)
Where GDPR applies, we process your data to perform our contract with you (subscription, trial), for our legitimate interests (security, fraud and abuse prevention), and with your consent where required.
4. Sharing
We share data only with the service providers necessary to run the App:
- Apple / Google — payment processing;
- RevenueCat — subscription management;
- Cloudflare — hosting of our backend services;
- Open Food Facts — receives the barcodes/search terms you look up (without your identity).
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
5. Data Retention
- The device trial marker is retained indefinitely, as it exists specifically to prevent trial re-use after reinstalls. We delete it on request.
- Local data (profile, diary, history) lives only on your device and is removed when you delete the App.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, object to or restrict processing, and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise any of these rights — including deletion of the trial record stored for your device — contact us at support@apsoluts.com and we will respond within 30 days.
7. Security
All communication between the App and our servers uses encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Sensitive data stored on your device (profiles, diary, subscriptions) is protected with envelope encryption (AES-256 with integrity verification), with keys held in the operating system's secure storage. You can further protect local data with the optional biometric lock, which requires Face ID, Touch ID, or your fingerprint to open the App. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data with industry-standard measures.
8. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Family profiles for household members (including children) are stored only on your device. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International Transfers
Our backend runs on globally distributed infrastructure (Cloudflare). Where data is transferred across borders, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses provided by our processors.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated in the App or on this page, and the "Effective date" above will be updated.
